Onward Marine strives to provide you with the very best for your vessel. We offer customers a wide range of beautifully made furniture, which is hand-made for us in the most perfect timber for the marine environment, solid durable teak.
Why choose teak furniture?
Easy, we have composed this guide to help customers who are looking for new furniture, realise the true benefits of our teak furniture and why it would be the ideal choice for your vessel.
What is teak?
Teak is a hardwood which originates from south and southeast Asia. Teak contains a high oil content, high tensile strength and tight grain. This combination allows teak to be used for many different maritime purposes which include furniture, boat decks, flooring, countertops, plus a wide variety of accessories and trim. It’s wonderful material to work with and aesthetically beautiful to look at.
We responsibly utilise plantation teak only, with all design and production kept in the source country of Thailand where the world’s very best plantation teak is grown. No primary forest is damaged to produce our furniture, and no raw timber is shipped out of the country. As a result, the people of Thailand retain creative engagement and maximise the revenue they are due.
What are the benefits of teak furniture?
Teak is incredibly durable, often giving a lifetime of problem free usage.
Its natural properties make teak virtually immune to rotting and resists warping, twisting, or splintering over time.
As a hardwood, teak is naturally resistant to both water and accidental impact which considerably increases its useful life expectancy with minimal regular maintenance.
Maintenance and Protection
The natural properties of our teak furniture make it ideal for a life on-board, giving years of comfort in style. But as a natural material, it is important to look after your investment with some simple maintenance.
Onward Marine can provide you with a range of products and advice that ensures teak furniture is properly protected in a harsh salt / UV environment. These include teak cleaners and renovators which offer a deep and thorough clean without heavy scrubbing. A practice that will strip out the soft elements of the timber leaving ridges of hardwood that can only be resolved by sanding down.
We can also offer teak oils or a specialist teak sealer (SEMCO) which has several ingredients that work together to feed and protect your furniture from mould/mildew, UV degradation, moisture & colour loss. You can find more detail about how to protect and maintain your furniture by viewing our previous post titled ‘Protecting Teak Furniture’.
